Furry culture is still a little hidden and might always be. I don't know, maybe it has something to do with the fact that even their most ardent proponents publically have a little bit of a sheepish affection for the fetish. The internet has made it easier to connect with folks who are in the anthro scene, but even then, it is difficult to get all of the best information about the scene.

There are forums out there that make this easier, but it's always nice to have other places in cyberspace to check. Amazingly, wikifur is exactly what it sounds like: a community-driven Wikipedia all about the anthro world and the culture related to it.

This Is A Great Places To Find Out About Upcoming Furry Events

The first thing that struck me when I started reviewing this wiki is the long list of furry events. Now, I knew enough about the culture to realize that there is a fine number of conventions and other social occassions for furry freaks. But damn, I was surprised by the dozens of events happening all over the world, and these are not small affairs either.

The major events include Howloween in Canada, Furry Cruise in Florida, multiple events in Japan, and Brazil Furfest, to name but a few. For you newbies, you'll find that there is information about how many people have attended an event in years past. This can be quite handy as the original Howloween in 2002 had all of ten people, while a couple decades later, there were over four hundred attendees. Other information includes event history, descriptions of the venue, and pricing. Even if you are a seasoned furry fan, then the homepage alone will be of value to you.

Beyond that, there are two other links called Conventions and Locations, which lead you to even more conventions and locations. The information that you get is exceptional, with links that will lead you on a rabbit trail (or is it a buck trail, roe trail, maybe?) that leads to a treasure trove of interesting data. For instance, in Conventions, the link to Japan Meeting of Furries leads you to 11 pages, Conventions by Year has 260, and Convention stubs have the better part of a thousand pages.

Impressed yet? Well, look at their collection of promoted websites and social groups. The social groups are a mixed bag of recommendations for chat groups, online social clubs, public event planners, and the such like. The Websites have no descriptions, only links to other furry-friendly spots in cyberspace, but it is a nice resource to have.

This Is A Great Database For Fetish Comic Info

One ongoing project that this wiki seems to be heavily invested in is collecting information about furry, anthro, and other sorts of saucy comics. There are many dozens of entries so far, and they are pretty good at describing the plot the characters, and other interesting details.

The collection of animations and audio are rather interesting as well. Just look for it in the left-hand link that reads Audio and Video, not the Music or Animation links in the upper left of the homepage. That brings me to two major issues that I have with this wiki.

While it mostly sticks to the standard formula, they should do a better job at making clear which links lead where and should differentiate them with icons or colored text and better placement. If you need an illustration of this, just compare the Wikifur homepage to that of the original Wikipedia, and you'll see exactly what I mean. Another issue is the way audio and multimedia files are stored. Instead of having clickable boxes complete with thumbnails like any low-end erotica site, theirs are only hosted offsite or are available as downloads.

The Game Guides Leave Something To Be Desired

I may have seen a few websites that host a decent number of furry-style games, but not too many. There honestly are not a whole lot of games in that genre, and many that exist are shitty Flash-based games with subpar graphics that offer maybe ten minutes of fun gameplay. However, I cannot think of a better resource to find fantastic games of the furry variety, including Critter Conquest, Bad Neverland, and Space Paws.

The reviews are sometimes good but more complete than some of the comics or others. In fact, I would say that there are certain guides that are up to or beyond the par of other wikis for gamers. Look at the Space Paws review to get a detailed rundown on the gameplay, characters, plot, and a bit on its development history. If you check the references, you'll even see a link to how you can get the game for free from the creator's blog.

However, you also might want to know the fact that Multiplayer Worlds also has a lot of games, furry-centric game guides, and online roleplaying. Many of them are pretty neat and certainly more interesting than other adult games you have experienced before, but that does not mean they are for everyone. For instance, NarniaMUCK is a role-playing experience (MUCK means multi-user created kingdom) and places emphasis on coding abilities as it is an old-fashioned text adventure.

That is not for everyone for sure, but a nice thing that at least a few of you geekier furry fanatics.

The Chat and "Forum" Have Incomprehensively Badly Designed

The chat is something that some of you who are very tech-oriented might like, but only if you have a lot of free time or you enjoy a challenge. The reason is that you will have to go through a multistep process just to get into a chatroom.

There are different programs you can (and have to) acquire, whether you are using a personal computer, Linux, Mac, or are using a cross-platform. I understand that plugging in a chat widget might be challenging, but why do you have to go through so many steps just to join a private chat server? Perhaps there is something special or exclusive about getting access to this feature, but if there is an incentive, the wiki is not trying to sell it.

Then there is the forum.

I have never seen a forum so wretched that the Wikifur messageboard almost does not deserve to be called one. There has been next to no attempt to use tools that anyone who has edited a Wiki article to dress it up. Trying to follow conversations is eye-straining because there are no boxes separating posts, and there are no user avatars, emojis, or anything similar.

Honestly, if there was a feature I would like to see go, it is this one if it cannot be improved.

Some Sections Are No Longer Functioning At All

Another problem that I have with this wiki is the fact that there are even entire pages that are not functional. To make things even more frustrating is the fact that there are sections that have almost no content whatsoever. It is not even clear when they are going to be updated. That is too bad, considering the fact that many of them look promising. This is particularly true on the other versions of this site in certain languages. The biggest problem I have with the presentation is the fact that the mobile version looks like trash. How hard is it to optimize a wiki page?

They Have Nice Multiple Language Versions

I have noticed that a lot of niche wikis only appear in a single language, and usually, that is English. Of course, that is not a problem for most of us, at least usually. Unfortunately, that is not terribly helpful when you are looking at a wiki that is designed to help people find events happening in an area where people speak the same language.

So, it is not the most helpful for people in Russia who are trying to find adult-only functions near them since it's a good bet that most English speakers are going to know about it. Even if they do, there is not going to be a lot of incentive for someone in Britain to post about it. This is particularly frustrating, seeing as it is even harder to find furry events in your area, no matter what country you are in.

Fortunately, Wikifur has multiple language versions and a shocking number at that. To put things into perspective, most websites that I review might come in three or four, maybe half a dozen translations being usually English, a handful of European languages, and something like Japanese or Chinese.

However, WikiFur.com comes in virtually all of the major European languages, including Danish and Polish, along with Russian, Tagalog, and Magyar. Those are just some of the twenty-two versions of this wiki, and it might be the only sex-centered site I have seen to have a version that has been written in Esperanto.

Honestly, this is the strangest wiki I have ever seen, and it could be one of the most unusual websites that I have ever covered. Look at any of my other reviews, and you'll see why that is saying quite a lot. And so, while this is hardly the sexiest website ever conceived and does not have too much actual erotica, it is a great information resource for furry fetishists. I am going to give it three and a half hands.
